Alex Besikian and Antoine Orand combine their practices in a new drawing book, printed in Risography and published by Quintal (FR).

Compositions with 2 or 4 hands, accumulation and successive hollowing out of digital layers; from this graphic exchange of almost a year, results a silent and pop world. The clear and precise lines are disturbed by the explosion of masses of colors. The drawings evoke, give food for thought and attract but never impose a single reading.

By scratching a little beneath these attractive surfaces, the layers of multiple source images can be guessed: details of retro-futuristic objects, plant textures or dreamy interiors with old-fashioned wallpapers. Through these transformations into semi-abstract compositions, reveals the imagination and figuration of an era prior to that of its authors.

This visual clash between nature and technique echoes the very creative process of the two artists. By means of collages and digital accidents, adding frames and flat areas, Besikian and Orand use the computer to augment their first drawings. Back and forth between the paper and the screen before the Riso printing blurs the clues and harmonizes the limits.
